AFoCR hosted Annual Award Gala Event in Houston on Nov. 12, 2008. Presidents Bush and Klaus were Honorary Chairs!

Former U.S. President George H.W. Bush and President Vaclav Klaus were the honorary chairs of the American Friends of the Czech Republic annual gala dinner that took place at the JW Marriott Hotel in Houston, Texas on November 12, 2008. The evening’s honorees were pioneering American astronauts of Czech heritage, Eugene Cernan and James Lovell, both of whom received the coveted Civil Society Vision awards.

The purpose of the gala dinner was to celebrate 20 years of close and strong U.S.-Czech relations, including the flourishing of democracy and prosperity in the Czech Republic, and the reconstruction of the Woodrow Wilson Monument in Prague. Financial contributions raised at the event go directly to this ongoing initiative, and are being applied to architectural and sculpturing costs to recreate this once bright and graphic reminder of President Wilson’s critical role in a free, independent, and democratic Czechoslovakia after the First World War and the consequential, historic Wilson-Masaryk relationship.

To make your tax-deductible contribution to this very worthwhile effort, please click on How You Can Help Us on our Home page. We need your support to make the reconstruction of the Woodrow Wilson Monument in Prague a reality!
